5 Lessons I Learned During my Disney College Program

While the Disney College Program may be everything you dream of, there are some key takeaways that might just change your perspective.

1. A job at Disney will never complete you

While this might be your dream career, and you've waited years to complete the program; a job is still a job. You'll still have bad days, and you'll hate your job sometimes; you just happen to be at Disney. Your job at Disney does not define you.

2. Don't be afraid to be yourself

You may think you had to create this personality for the application and interview process to score the job, but Disney really wants to know who you are. So be yourself; come out of your shell and truly show everyone who you are. You'll find it a lot easier to make friends when you are yourself. You'll gain so much more confidence, I promise.

3. Make connections

Internships are always fantastic ways to make connections professionally. Everyone knows someone, and if you make these connections now, you will have them for a lifetime, and your life could change directions in an instant. If you have dreams to be with the company long term, this is just opening that first door for you.

4. Do what's best for you

Your friends will want you to go out and party with them, or rope drop the parks after you work till 3 in the morning. You know you need your rest before you do it all again the next day. While you may want to take advantage of the perks, don't forget to take time for yourself and rest. Don't overwork yourself, because you will burn out quickly, and it will no longer be fun.

5. Sometimes you just have to go to the parks alone

And that's okay! Going to the parks alone held some of my favorite memories. I didn't base what I did off of others opinions, I got to fully enjoy my time embracing the park and joy around me. While you're feeling down about no one going to the parks with you, don't stay home; go enjoy your day doing what you want to do. You never know, you might just make a friend on the way!
